We found the taxi area and asked to go to Krazy Lobster because we heard about the $20 massages. There are of course a lot of shops and stands full of merchandise. The pool is huge and has a swim up bar, but we didn't get in. The flamingos are nice to see, as well as the natives pole routine. The port area alone had so much going on. ![]() Enjoy! Thank you again Raquel and Pedro Dont forget your bug spray! But if you do, Raquel and Pedro will have some for you. This was our 1st time getting off the ship in Costa Maya. No worries about time either, they will take care of you, they will drive you back to the port on time with wonderful memories. Raquel and Pedro gave us a VIP like tour. The tour was absolutely amazing and memorable. Pedro, our driver, followed the whole time with umbrellas in case of rain and ice water. We were one of the first groups on property and Raquel made it so that we were always the only group on the ruins. We stopped by a fresh pineapple stand, $2 will feed about 8 people. Our wonderful guide, Raquel, made the 45 minute air conditionned bus ride wonderful and interesting. It was an easy walk and easily found though. These companies are not allowed on port property, so you have to walk about 15 minutes. It did not disappoint! The only issue was the walk in the morning to the office of Native Choice. I booked this excursion to the Chacchoben Mayan ruins per other reviews read on this site and because the guides are locals. Overall a huge thank you to Native Choice and especially Raquel for making the cruise stop so perfect.Ĭosta Maya was one of our cruise's stops. She arranged for a tour with her company which was just as impressive. We were so impressed by the company and the tour guide we asked for her recommendation for the next day's stop in Cozumel. They dropped us off right at the port in plenty of time to do a little shopping in Costa Maya (long enough to see that we didn't miss anything). We spent several hours at the property just relaxing. The resort provided lunch, drinks (beer, soda, mixed drinks, etc.) kayaking and swimming, all included in the tour price. Amazingly, it was nearly undeveloped except for the one resort the tour company works with. This resort is located on a huge, pristine lake. By far though, the best part of the day was the trip to the Bacalar Lagoon Resort. She made things interesting for our young son, and showed us some interesting spots that the other tours were skipping over. ![]() ![]() ![]() Instead of the large tour bus companies with over 50 tourists, we had a nearly private tour with only 9 people (we were a group of 5). Our guide, Raquel, was extremely well informed and knowledgeable about her country, local area, and history of the Mayans. We were taken in a comfortable, spacious van to the Chacchoben Ruins, about 45 minutes away from the tour company. It was totally worth it though, as the experience from check in to drop off was simply perfect. The only "bad" part of the day was the walk to the local office, which is a pretty good distance from the cruise port (the port apparently keeps a monopoly on the tour companies that can work "inside" the port itself). Instead we booked with this local company and had a truly memorable experience. When we started to look at the options available from our cruise ship for Costa Maya, we just weren't impressed. This company was exactly what we were looking for.
